Did you say Honey in my Coffee?

It’s become a regular habit of mine to order a cup of coffee and ask for a teaspoon or two of honey. It’s usually followed by a raised eyebrow or a confused look, but I kid you not this is a great substitute if you’re trying to cut down on artificial sugars.

For a healthy lifestyle, honey has many benefits:

Weight Loss - when consumed with warm water, honey can help digest fat stored in your body, thus aiding in weight loss

Increased Energy - carbohydrates in honey are easily converted into energy in your muscle cells

Sugar alternative – great for those with a sweet tooth
So next time you’re in your favourite coffee shop, swap the sugar for honey.

How to Buy Shoes for Petite Feet

I’m around a 5ft tall fitness, fashion and food lover with size 3 feet and skinny ankles. I’ve always struggled to find shoes that fit for many reasons; they feel lose, my ankles look tiny and they can make me look shorter. For my first ever petite fashion post, I’m going to share with you my top tips for buying shoes when you have petite feet.

1. Wedged heels are not evil – despite people thinking they can make your ankles look bigger; there are ways around buying the ideal wedged heel. Buy a pair of wedges which have thin straps, cut-out detailing, colours such as tan brown and beige.

2. Choose ankle strap and slingback shoes as they compliment delicate ankles.

3. In the colder months, heighten your legs by matching your tights to the colour of your shoes.

4. Avoid chunky soles from platforms to “flat-forms”.

5. Never be scared of stilettos – the go to pair of shoes to jazz up your work to party outfit.

6. Larger embellishment such as large medallions, have a tendency to overpower delicate ankles. Instead opt for finer detailing such as small gems, like on this gorgeous pair of ASOS heeled sandals.

7. Be careful with pointed toed shoes – though they’re gorgeous, they can make your feet look a size or two bigger.

8. Instead grow your collection of ballet pumps from your basic blacks to pastel purples.

9. Ankle boots can draw unwanted attention to your ankles. Try to find a pair which leave a smaller gap, or buy a gorgeous pair of knee high boots.

10. Buy cheaper trainers - if you can fit into a shoe size below 5 ½, then you can buy trainers without the added tax as this falls under children’s shoe sizing.

11. Love insoles – I used to avoid shopping at places such as Office as their size 3 felt like a size 4 that was until I came across my beloved pair of black suede brogues, which fit perfectly with the Office Latex Insoles.

Wafflin’ in Brussels

When asking anyone who has visited Brussels, there are 4 tips commonly shared:

  1. Eat Waffles
  2. Eat Mussels and Frites
  3. Eat Chocolate
  4. And eat more Waffles

On my recent trip to Brussels with Hidden Freckles and Coffee Comedown, we were on a hunt to find a place where we could sit down and order a melt in your mouth waffle. By our 2nd day in the gorgeous city, we did what we do best – Google. After reading numerous reviews on Maison Dandoy, we chose to have breakfast there.

Welcomed to a smell of freshly baked biscuits, we made our way upstairs. Surprise, surprise, giving our order didn’t take half the time as it did to eat it. We all opted for hot chocolate, and a classic waffle with a drizzle of melted chocolate and vanilla ice-cream. For anyone visiting Brussels, Maison Dandoy is a must for your itinerary.

Hakkasan Mayfair

The first post I wanted to write had to be about Hakkasan Mayfair. Though Yautcha remains my all time favourite, this venue holds a special part in my heart. I originally chose the modern Michelin starred Chinese restaurant owned by Alan Yau as a birthday surprise for my better half – and I wasn’t disappointed.

We arrived at the restaurant after taking a detour (just to throw Big Bhav off track), which was a mistake after walking around in the rain wearing open toe wedges. Nevertheless, upon entering we were seated at the bar and greeted with the Hakkasan Cocktail Menu. After studying the menu like I was revising for an exam, I decided to order “The Hakka”, which houses many of my favourites – Belvedere Vodka, Lychee, Coconut and Passion Fruit.

Arriving at the dining table, all conversation stopped as we decided on which dishes to order. Some of the best dishes we had included the melt in your mouth golden fried soft shell crab and dim sum and oh what a treat it was.

Secondly, the signature roasted silver cod with champagne and honey was delicate and rich. Though, a word of warning - this is a dish that must be shared due to the richness of the sauce.

The evening finished with a delicious milk chocolate and praline cake with the added touch of “Happy Birthday Bhavin” written in glossy melted chocolate. If you’re ever in need to find a restaurant for a celebratory evening or fancy a treat, then keep Hakkasan Mayfair in mind.
