Wafflin’ in Brussels

When asking anyone who has visited Brussels, there are 4 tips commonly shared:

  1. Eat Waffles
  2. Eat Mussels and Frites
  3. Eat Chocolate
  4. And eat more Waffles

On my recent trip to Brussels with Hidden Freckles and Coffee Comedown, we were on a hunt to find a place where we could sit down and order a melt in your mouth waffle. By our 2nd day in the gorgeous city, we did what we do best – Google. After reading numerous reviews on Maison Dandoy, we chose to have breakfast there.

Welcomed to a smell of freshly baked biscuits, we made our way upstairs. Surprise, surprise, giving our order didn’t take half the time as it did to eat it. We all opted for hot chocolate, and a classic waffle with a drizzle of melted chocolate and vanilla ice-cream. For anyone visiting Brussels, Maison Dandoy is a must for your itinerary.

Hakkasan Mayfair

The first post I wanted to write had to be about Hakkasan Mayfair. Though Yautcha remains my all time favourite, this venue holds a special part in my heart. I originally chose the modern Michelin starred Chinese restaurant owned by Alan Yau as a birthday surprise for my better half – and I wasn’t disappointed.

We arrived at the restaurant after taking a detour (just to throw Big Bhav off track), which was a mistake after walking around in the rain wearing open toe wedges. Nevertheless, upon entering we were seated at the bar and greeted with the Hakkasan Cocktail Menu. After studying the menu like I was revising for an exam, I decided to order “The Hakka”, which houses many of my favourites – Belvedere Vodka, Lychee, Coconut and Passion Fruit.

Arriving at the dining table, all conversation stopped as we decided on which dishes to order. Some of the best dishes we had included the melt in your mouth golden fried soft shell crab and dim sum and oh what a treat it was.

Secondly, the signature roasted silver cod with champagne and honey was delicate and rich. Though, a word of warning - this is a dish that must be shared due to the richness of the sauce.

The evening finished with a delicious milk chocolate and praline cake with the added touch of “Happy Birthday Bhavin” written in glossy melted chocolate. If you’re ever in need to find a restaurant for a celebratory evening or fancy a treat, then keep Hakkasan Mayfair in mind.
